Stop female genital mutilation.
A friend of mine Dan has started his own Safari business in Kenyas Masai mara. On his most recent trip he learnt a lot about the Masai customs, some of them highly disturbing. Dan learnt that nearly ALL girls as young as 8 are subject to Female Genital Mutilation. Unfortunately this custom is mandatory and the girls don't have a choice in the matter, they are forced by their parents and culture to conform.
Female Genital mutilation kills many young girls as this practice is performed under un-sterile conditions without anaesthetic and usually with a razor blade. Infection is most common cause of death but girls have also died through loss of blood and shock.
On Dan's last trip in February this year he met both the Principal and Deputy principal of the school which resides next to Dan's safari camp. "I have to say they were the nicest and most genuine people I have ever met. They desperately want to build a boarding school/ Refuge centre for girls who are wanting to run away from their horrible fate." Dan has decided to put up his hand and make it happen. He learnt a double bunk bed costs $120 AUD and this will save 2 girls.
Dan is aiming to build the boarding school and have 100 beds for girls that would like a choice in their future.
From what the principal has told him, the 100 beds will be filled within days.
